Creating sustainable conditions
We work closely with local farmers, communities and international partners to promote sustainable development projects. Through our collaborations, we create conditions that support the long-term protection of wilderness areas and improve the quality of life of people in the target regions.
Climate change requires urgent action. With a limited budget, we must carefully consider how we use trees for a healthy climate.
Tree plantations take 25 years to become "climate positive" and only achieve a fraction of the biodiversity of primeval forests. In the first few years, they even cause emissions through their planting. That is why we are concentrating our resources on urgently needed projects in the Amazon region in Peru and in British Columbia, Canada.
Wilderness International protects forests in Canada and Peru because these areas are unique and ecologically valuable habitats and at the same time offer a high degree of legal security. Thanks to the legally secure purchase with entry in the land register, Wilderness International has full power of disposal and ensures that the protected areas cannot be resold or used commercially.
In Canada, Wilderness International protects the temperate rainforest in British Columbia, one of the last large areas of its kind in the world. This ecosystem is home to unique species such as spirit bears, bald eagles and millennia-old giant trees, which are among the most species-rich forests in the northern hemisphere. Canada's forests are important CO₂ reservoirs and play a crucial role in the global carbon cycle. The Canadian legal system and the remote location of the forests offer additional protection against illegal trespassing.
In Peru, Wilderness International protects tropical rainforest in the Madre de Dios region, which is known for its enormous biodiversity. These forests in the Amazon basin regulate the climate and make a decisive contribution to the stability of the entire Amazon region through their water cycle. With the support of the Forest Guardians, drones and sensors, the area is monitored to prevent unauthorized intrusion. The Guardians work closely with the local population to raise awareness for the protection of the rainforest.
Both areas are of global importance as CO₂ reservoirs and as a home for rare species and are therefore particularly worthy of protection.

Start your 1% for the planet forest!
As a 1% partner of Wilderness International, you can symbolically establish your personal company forest and thus protect the rainforest for all time. For example, Nø Cosmetics, Sumup and the Canadian tour operator Kanadafieber are already doing this.
You are free to decide whether the piece of land you protect should be located within our protected area in Peru or in Canada. In addition to your commitment, you can increase the area of your forest through various activities.

Your company is growing and so is the forest: donate 1% of your total sales or that of individual product groups every year and let the protected forest area grow bigger and bigger.
1m2 per product / service
Protect a piece of old-growth forest, e.g. 1 m2 or more, for every product sold. For example, one of our long-standing partners protects 4 m2 of wilderness forever for every order placed in their online store.
CO2 compensation
Use our CO2 calculator or your already calculated footprint and protect the rainforest on this basis. We are happy to recommend contacts for individual compensation calculations.
Forest as gifts for employees
Protect a piece of forest for your employees, business partners or customers, e.g. as a meaningful Christmas present or for a company party. They can personalize and download the certificate online with a code. Find out more.

Thanks to donations, we can focus on communication and environmental education in such a way that consumption and production patterns are questioned and improved - one tool for this is the CO2 calculator.
Every square meter of rainforest stores around 60 kg of CO₂. By protecting the ecosystem, potential emissions are avoided immediately. This "REDD project" is a central building block for sustainable climate protection.
The protection of terrestrial ecosystems prevents soil degradation, combats desertification and slows the loss of biodiversity. The conservation of protected areas has a local and global impact on sustainable life on land.

Cooperation
Even as a child, I loved being outside. Whether it was going cross-country with my dad, playing outside or spending time with my pets, these were my favorite pastimes. And when the TV was on, it was usually a nature documentary. Nothing has ever fascinated me as much as nature. The fact that I can now combine my strengths and my passion at WI makes me proud and gives me the feeling that I am doing the right thing.
Previously, I worked for a tech company in the logistics industry, where I looked after our European customers and dealt with internationalization and the introduction of new products.
In my free time, you can find me either on the beach volleyball court or on my SUP on one of our beautiful waters in northern Germany. I live out my creative side by brewing my own beer with a friend for a few years now. So I'm always up for a chat about sport, food and craft beer, or something new!

Big trees, mountains and valleys shrouded in mist. Green as far as the eye can see - the love of travel and the urge to be in the wilderness still characterizes me today. At Wilderness International, I dedicate some of my time to preserving these places and protecting biodiversity.
I have spent the last 20+ years working in Marketing & Communications at Red Bull, Google and YouTube, managing large-scale projects and community events, creating campaigns and content, and initiating creator collaborations. I hope that through the foundation's work and effective partnerships, among other things, we will be able to preserve the last 2.8% of intact land habitats on our planet for our and future generations. They are essential as a global lever for CO2 sequestration and are simply beautiful.
