In 2019, the initiative"My Tree - My Dresden" was launched in Dresden as a blueprint for independent tree planting initiatives. In a non-political and collaborative way, citizens are greening their city and improving the climate, biodiversity and quality of life.

Destination
550,000 trees for Dresden - that's one for every Dresdener!
What?
More than 110,000 trees have already been planted between 2019 and 2023.
When.
From 2019 to 2023, we have planted trees and shrubs in Dresden and the surrounding area every year in the fall and spring during the best planting season (usually in November and December as well as February) together with many volunteers. Now it's your turn!
How?
Monetary donations enable the purchase of the plants and the organization. Property owners provide the areas for the plantings voluntarily and free of charge. They commit themselves to leave the woody plants standing and also take care of the future maintenance.
Why?
Native woody plants are planted. In this way, we improve biodiversity and create habitats. For healthy air. For butterflies, wild bees and singing birds. For healthy coexistence. For a greener, more livable and healthier Dresden. And as a model for the rest of the world!

We humans spend a lot of time outdoors. Especially in summer, we enjoy lying in the shade of the trees, listening to the songbirds and breathing the fresh air. That's why I think it's time we gave life to 550,000 trees - and made our lives more beautiful!

Dresden
81 percent of Dresden residents would like to see more public green spaces. From August 5 to September 30, 2017, 12,500 randomly selected citizens with their main residence in Dresden were asked to participate in the survey.
SDG 11 seeks to improve air quality, ensure access to safe and inclusive green spaces, and increase the number of cities and settlements implementing projects to mitigate climate change, adapt to climate change, and promote resilience to disasters.
With the "My Tree - My City" project, we are contributing to the achievement of SDG 11.
"My Tree - My Dresden" is a civic initiative that aims to plant a tree for every:n inhabitant:in Dresden. Most importantly, the initiative is meant to be a blueprint that inspires to implement the same action in many cities all over Germany. This is possible because all materials are open source.
From 2019 to 2023, we led the initiative for Dresden. In 2023, we relinquished the lead. Now it's up to the people of Dresden. MBMD was intended from the start as a citizen-led project. The plan has always been to hand over the plantings to initiatives of the city's population and thus make room for civic engagement. We would like to focus 100% on our core project again and save intact ecosystems worldwide from disappearing.
We did not end the initiative, but merely handed over the project management and handed the project over to the city population. MBMD was intended from the beginning as an open source initiative based on civic engagement. So it can continue at any time, if committed people can be found.
Check with existing planting initiatives to see if they need helpers or support. Or start the initiative in your own city! Thanks to the open source material, it's easy to do. We are at your disposal for any questions.

The initiative has been a great success to date. By the end of 2022, €267,900 in donations had been raised, all of which was used for planting. In total, 10,000 helpers have made Dresden and its surroundings greener with more than 110,000 trees and shrubs. The participation of Dresden school classes, companies, families and many voluntary Dresden citizens was overwhelming. And this despite all the difficulties during the pandemic. Thus, the goal of 500,000 trees, one for each city resident, has already been reached by 20%.
