In the Madre de Dios region of Peru, there are 10 times more reptiles and amphibians than in Germany and on one hectare of forest you can find around 400 tree species, more than in the whole of Europe north of the Alps.

Madre de Dios - the region in which the protected areas are located - is considered to be the most biodiverse place in the world.
Around 10% of all bird species in the world can be observed here! For example this hoatzin, also known as the "stink bird".
The protected areas are located directly on the Tambopata River, which is home to four species of caiman. The caiman population is regularly studied by the researchers on site.
