Swimming in the wild
The Expedition Podcast

Tropical rainforest, Peru. 99% humidity, the air is thick and stagnant. Crickets chirp, mosquitoes bite. And right in the middle of it all: two fishing chairs, two microphones, two people—and plenty of stories to tell.
Wildbaden – the expedition podcast from Wilderness International takes you on a challenging, emotional, and sometimes surprisingly funny journey of discovery to the most biodiverse place on Earth—the tropical rainforest of Peru—with people who are no less diverse than its flora and fauna: researchers, environmental and animal rights activists, ambassadors for our organization, nature filmmakers, and, of course, our team at Wilderness International.
The host
Sebastian "Basti" Unger is a cameraman, expedition pro, and certified forest bath instructor. 😉 For us, Basti is switching sides on this expedition and stepping IN front of the camera alongside the fascinating guests who joined us on the trip. As an eloquent northerner, he knows how to create calm, reflective, and incredibly funny moments—even after the most exhausting day of the expedition.

#1 Tomb Raider & Animal Instinct
Malte Zierden & Phia Quantius
Malte Zierden and Phia Quantius are animal rights activists, authors, and content creators—and, despite plenty of opportunities in the rainforest, they’re still single! The couple talks about empathy for animals and collective responsibility, the disconnect between public and private life as content creators, and the best way to prepare for a trip to the rainforest when you’re actually afraid of spiders.
#2 Stabbing and Being Stabbed
Tattoo Artist & Animal Rights Activist Broder Böll
Wildlife conservation that gets under your skin: After nearly a year, Hamburg-based tattoo artist and animal rights activist Broder Böll is back in the Peruvian rainforest to work with Malte Zierden and Phia Quantius to create a sanctuary for animals and plants. Yes, even mosquitoes! We talk to Broder about why social media can be a powerful force for good, the strength that lies within a community, and what it feels like to return to a place you helped save together.
About Wilderness International
The foundation, which is based in Peru, Canada and Germany, purchases legally secure wilderness areas and protects them for the future. The purchases are refinanced through donations, which ensure the long-term protection of the areas, supports environmental education projects, and research into CO2 storage and biodiversity.
