The organizer of nature-based kayak tours protects 1 m² per guest day and actively and successfully invites its guests to participate in wilderness conservation.

The wilderness areas protected by Wildcoast Adventures in the temperate rainforest are located on Porcher Island on Canada's west coast. They are the most species-rich ecosystem in the northern hemisphere. Their ancient giant trees provide a safe habitat for an incredible number of animal and plant species. Plus, they are considered the largest CO₂ sinks on the mainland.
The temperate rainforest from a bird's eye view: the giant trees of these ancient forests are many hundreds of years old.
Forest protection on Porcher Island has a direct impact on the nutrient cycle of the surrounding waters—a key prerequisite for the intact feeding grounds of humpback whales and other species.
The orcas off the Canadian west coast feed mainly on salmon.
Rare coastal wolves find a safe haven on Porcher Island.
The population of bald eagles has also stabilized again in western Canada—proof of the success of targeted conservation measures.
The raised bogs on Porcher Island are of great ecological interest: not only is their CO₂ storage capacity remarkable, but so is their biodiversity.
The rare sundew, for example, is perfectly adapted to the constantly damp conditions in the raised bog.

Wildcoast Adventures was particularly impressed by Wilderness International's transparent and concrete use of donations: a 1,50 CAD donation protects 1 sqm of old-growth forest – forever. Donors receive a certificate with the geocoordinates and an aerial photo of the protected forest area, as well as a tax-deductible donation receipt.
