About the country

When the sun rises over the forests along the Tambopata River, the forest begins to breathe. Warm mist rises above the treetops, breaking the sunlight into warm colors of red.

Location of the nature reserve

The Land of the Sloths is the first piece of land we were able to acquire in the Peruvian Amazon in 2021. The 50.47 hectares of dense tropical rainforest are located along the Tambopata River, about 30km away from Puerto Maldonado, the last town before the endless expanses of the jungle. With the protection of this area we safeguard the nearby Tambopata National Reserve.

Evergreen paradise of life

Streaks of sunlight penetrate the dense canopy of the enormous jungle giants, which stand on meter-high board roots and are draped all over with vines. High up in the treetops, a brown-throated sloth stirs from its sleep with slow movements. Leisurely it reaches out to a branch and begins to pluck off the tasty green leaves. Later, while most animals rest in the midday heat, a colony of ants is highly active cutting leaves into small pieces and carrying them to their massive burrow. In the afternoon, like clockwork, the cicadas begin to chirp, drowning out all other animals with a deafening noise. Only a powerful thunderstorm with unbelievable heavy rain silences them.
