About the country

Amidst the tranquility and sedateness of the millennia-old jungle giants, little elves hurriedly buzz around, hunting for the secrets of the rainforest.

Location of the nature reserve

On the north bank of the Toba River, the rufous hummingbird land joins another 76.5 acres of lush wilderness to the emerging wildlife corridor.

In the realm of the cinnamon elves

Following the tracks of deer and lynx across the sandbank, you enter the forest. Here, ancient maple groves, hung to their loftiest heights with lichen and thick blankets of moss, grow high into the sky. At their feet lie fallen giants, nurse trees that nurture mushrooms and provide a home for nimble salamanders.
Amidst all the greenery are splashes of color from tiger lilies and raspberry bushes. Little hummingbirds flit nimbly from flower to flower, their rapid wing beats of up to 80 per second just a blur of cinnamon brown. In mid-air they stop to slurp the sweet nectar deep from the blossom with their long beaks. Then the lightweights of only 4g have already disappeared again in the thicket of ferns and leaves.
