International Barcode of Life Consortium (iBOL)

- Global research organization for the genetic identification of species using DNA barcoding
- Inventory and long-term monitoring of biodiversity in our protected areas
- Joint basic research
- Completing global biodiversity databases for the public and the future.
The International Barcode of Life Consortium (iBOL) is the leading organization for the digital recording of life on Earth. Using DNA barcoding, iBOL is building a global reference library to accurately identify species and make the state of nature measurable.
In partnership with Wilderness International, this expertise is used to compile detailed species lists and conduct systematic long-term monitoring in the protected areas. This data enables us to identify ecological changes at an early stage and to scientifically prove the effectiveness of our conservation measures.
In addition, the cooperation makes a decisive contribution to global basic research. The data collected is entered into public databases and is permanently available to the global community and future generations. In this way, we are jointly creating a reliable knowledge base for the protection of global biodiversity.
