The Helmholz Center for Environmental Research

The Department "Ecological Systems Analysis" of the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research advises us scientifically on expanding our model for calculating carbon fluxes and on the forest inventories we regularly conduct in the protected areas.

Founded in 1991, the UFZ is one of the world's leading research centers in the field of environmental research and a member of the Helmholtz Association, Germany's largest scientific organization. At the Leipzig, Halle and Magdeburg sites, 1100 employees conduct research on the sustainable use of natural resources. An important role is played by the combination of natural sciences, engineering and the humanities in order to create practical solution options for complex environmental problems.

In the future, another major research project is planned to model biomass in the protected rainforests. In the course of this, a Light Detection And Ranging" (LIDAR) aerial survey will be carried out to validate the forest inventories that form the basis of our model for the CO2 calculator.
