The Greifswald Moor Centrum is an internationally recognized center of excellence for moorland research, moorland conservation, and moorland rewetting. Founded in 2015, it combines science, policy advice, and practical experience to preserve and restore moorlands as key ecosystems for climate, biodiversity, and nature conservation.
Since 2025, Wilderness International has been collaborating with the Greifswald Moor Centrum on a joint moorland research project. The aim of the project is to scientifically investigate the ecological function and climate impact of moorland ecosystems in protected areas. The main focus is on analyzing carbon storage in order to provide sound data for the long-term protection of these sensitive habitats.
The collaboration combines the scientific expertise of the Greifswald Moor Centrum with the practical nature conservation work of Wilderness International and makes an important contribution to the protection of moors as natural climate protectors and biodiversity hotspots.
