DJI takes off into the wilderness as spearheads of digitalization in environmental protection

DJI supports us with drones for our land explorations. Thanks to its special flight characteristics and compact size, the model DJI Mavic 3e is ideally suited for transport and use in remote wilderness areas.

Wilderness International is working with DJI to digitize our protected areas. We rely on DJI technology, among others, to enable transparency in a new dimension through the use of technology.

Benefits of DJI drones for international wildlife conservation:

The DJI Mavic 3e drone is used for scouting and exploring new pieces of land, which Wilderness International subsequently purchases via land registration and places under long-term protection in a legally secure manner. With our claim to protect wilderness as transparently as possible, we are setting standards in digitalization in environmental protection.

Drones are absolutely essential for scouting new wilderness areas, as we can start from central points in the forest and explore new pieces of land. Scouting on foot is usually not possible and would be far too time-consuming and resource-intensive. We are currently establishing a completely new approach to forest protection and the monitoring of protected areas. To this end, drones are supporting our staff on the ground and our permanent forest guardian employees are being trained in how to use the drones. In addition to personal patrols, they can also fly over a large area with the drone to quickly gather information in the event of suspected illegal activities.

The use of drones is of enormous importance both in rapid assessment as a decision-making aid for the protection of a wilderness area, and in the monitoring of protected areas. The fact that our work in wilderness protection can be viewed in real time, digitally and conveniently, makes it easier for people to get enthusiastic and get involved as conservationists. Together, we can protect more square meters of wilderness, preserve biodiversity, and guarantee that intact natural areas continue to provide important ecosystem services for our daily lives.

In our Peruvian protected areas, we have been researching the use of drone technology to take environmental DNA samples from the treetops of tropical primary forests in a globally unique pilot project since 2024 - DJI is also supporting us by providing drones. The expected results could represent a milestone for biodiversity research, as this new method will help to collect meaningful data much more efficiently in the future. This not only helps our work in wilderness and species conservation, but also forms an important basis for all future conservation projects.

DJI supports Wilderness International as a long-term partner in critical areas of infrastructure and research and in this way says "thank you" to nature.
