Air Canada takes over forest sponsorship
Since June 2017, Air Canada has offered flights from Frankfurt to Vancouver and Air Canada Rouge the connection from Berlin to Toronto. The company designed both inaugural flights to be completely CO2-neutral: each passenger received a sponsorship of 16 m2 of pristine wilderness to directly offset the carbon dioxide emissions of the flights. In this way, Air Canada protects a total of 8500 m2 of rainforest on the west coast of Canada.
Air Canada, founded in 1937, is the largest airline in Canada and a founding member of the Star Alliance airline alliance. The company is headquartered in Montreal and has a fleet consisting of 176 aircraft, destinations are located in Asia, Europe and the United States. Air Canada Rouge was founded in 2012 as one of Air Canada's subsidiaries.
Airplanes are known to be among the modes of transportation with the highest CO2 emissions. As Canada's largest airline, Air Canada strives to keep these emissions as low as possible and to offset them when possible. Through its wilderness sponsorship with Wilderness International, the company is able to protect Canada's rainforests at the same time as it protects animals and plants that counteract climate change. We thank them for their support and look forward to a continued good cooperation!
