Offset the carbon footprint of your NFTs

You create crypto artwork and want to add value to the NFT? You want to offset the high energy consumption of the NFT and do something for nature conservation and the climate?

Then donate a self-chosen percentage of the sales price for rainforest protection and thus compensate the CO2 footprint of the NFT! In addition to the NFT, your buyers will receive a personalized certificate about the protected piece of rainforest.

Why should I protect wilderness for my crypto projects?

Deutsche Welle reports that according to the Bitcoin Energy Consumption Index, Bitcoin's carbon footprint is now "as large as that of the oil state of Kuwait."

The carbon footprint of a one-time Bitcoin transaction alone already causes 1210.51 kg of CO2(source). To compensate for this, €20.20 would have to be donated to protect 20.2 m2 of rainforest.

The carbon footprint of Ethereum transactions selling NFTs is also high.

Example calculations:

  • The creation of an NFT (mining) consumes 142 kWh and thus causes 57 kg CO2
  • Bidding on an NFT consumes 41 kWh and thus generates 16 kg of CO2
  • The redemption of a bid consumes 12 kWh and thus causes 5 kgCO2
  • The sale of an NFT consumes 87 kWh and thus generates 35 kg of CO2
  • Transferring ownership consumes 52 kWh and thus generates 21 kg of CO2

CO2 offset:
You decide how much you donate for your token emission. The above example will give you some guidance. To offset your initial NFT offering, we suggest the following:

2 € donation per purchase of a NFT

  • Creation, sale and transfer of ownership cause ø approx. 120 kgCO2
  • 1 m2 of rainforest has stored 60 kg of CO2. By protecting this area, the CO2 remains permanently bound.

Your advantages

  • concrete: 1 € donation protects 1 m2 of rainforest forever

  • Good for the climate: every square meter of forest offsets 60 kg of CO2

  • Transparent: each donor receives a personalized certificate with the geo-coordinates and an aerial photograph of the protected forest area.

  • permanent: the one-time donation guarantees the permanent protection of the area

  • tax deductible: donation with donation receipt

  • non-fungible: Similar to the blockchain, the sponsorship is transferable and not exchangeable. The carbon offset can only be made once.

  • You will receive pictures and videos of the protected forest area, animals and trees, as well as information, sources and text modules for communication

Examples

We have already accompanied several tokens. Thus, we extend this unique digital asset with concrete, legally secure and permanent wilderness protection. You increase the individual value of an art object even more. And at the same time you do something really good for the preservation of intact ecosystems.

Tomary Retropets

The YouTuber Tomary created crypto art himself as one of his experiments and sold it as NFTs. He wanted to compensate for the resulting CO2 footprint due to the high energy balance and has protected rainforests with us.

How rainforest protection works with Wilderness International

Wilderness International buys primary rainforest areas legally secure with land registration and protects them for all future. The purchases are refinanced by donations, which at the same time enable long-term protection as well as environmental education and research. Donors receive a personalized certificate with the exact geo-coordinates and aerial photograph of the forest area they are protecting. In this way, the use and impact of the donation is concrete and directly traceable. We are currently active in the temperate rainforest of western Canada and the Amazon rainforest of Peru.

How we protect wilderness.

Our guide to saving the world.
Wilderness International

1

Find land plot

In rapid assessments, we work with researchers to determine the conservation value of a forest area. The decisive factors are whether the area has a high level of biodiversity and CO2 storage capacity, whether it is under threat and whether it is located in a strategically important place.

2

Buy in advance

The purchase of the land is financed with loans. We do not collect donations for land that we do not yet own.

3

Obtain land registry entry

We only work in countries with a high level of legal security and only buy land with a land register entry. All two or three foundations are entered in the land register.

4

Create aerial images

We use drones to create high-quality aerial panoramas of our land. These are uploaded to our website. Each square meter is provided with specific geocoordinates.

5

Refinance through donations

Anyone can donate to a specific piece of this wilderness area. The donation refinances the purchase and ensures long-term protection. Each square meter is only allocated once.

6

Prove by certificate with geo-coordinates

Donors receive a personalized certificate with the exact geocoordinates of the piece of forest they have helped to protect. This makes the protection tangible and directly traceable.

7

Research, document, communicate

Environmental ambassadors and researchers visit the areas, conduct research together and experience the forest they are protecting. They then use the research findings, photos and videos for environmental education in schools and to get people excited about wilderness.

8

Ensure long-term protection

Regular visits, local partnerships, forest guardians, property taxes and the foundation concept ensure the long-term protection and ecological integrity of the areas.
