Are you looking for a job in research in Peru?
Wilderness International Peru (WIPERU) is currently responsible for the protection of more than 3000 ha of primary rainforest in Madre de Dios in Peru. An important part of our work is the exploration of our protected areas.
This also includes the field of botany, where we identify the huge variety of tree species in our forests, measure trees to determine biomass and CO2 sequestration and map primeval forest giants.
We are currently looking for a new coordinator for this project!
Please send us your application by 20.05.2025 to: chris.kirkby@wilderness-international.org.
Your job
As a botany coordinator, you will collect data in the field about the plant communities in our protected areas. You will use methods such as permanent observation plots, tree planting, botanical sampling, search for key species such as Brazil nut, shihuahuaco, tornillo, lupuna, etc., analysis of satellite images and drones, as well as soil sampling for carbon studies.
This also includes the identification of plant species and the training of volunteers and student interns (national and international).

Because of the huge tree roots, ladders are often necessary when measuring trees in the tops.

We want to map giants like these.

You will work as part of an international team of researchers.

By analyzing high-resolution drone images, we can draw conclusions about the structure of the forest.

Please send complete applications by e-mail to Chris Kirkby by 20.05.2025.
