HEROLÉ has been a specialist in sustainable school trips since 2020 and offers school trips as part of the UNESCO World Action Program "Education for Sustainable Development". The tour operator also provides information on the topic of climate and travel. In addition, teachers can take action together with their students with further campaigns to make their class trip 100% CO₂-neutral, e.g. with an additional donation.

In March 2023, Managing Director Carsten Herold accompanied Wilderness International on an expedition to the Peruvian rainforest. There he visited the protected areas and saw the foundation's work for himself.

The Tambopata River flows very close to the HEROLÉ FOREST FOR FUTURE and creates special habitats.
With Wilderness International, we share a common vision of teaching young people the value of our natural world and enabling them to take responsibility for it themselves. Together, we have preserved over 500,000 m² of rainforest in Canada and Peru for future generations. This has enabled us to give many school classes the opportunity to engage intensively with sustainability and global responsibility.

In 2019 and 2020, HEROLÉ protected a 64 m² piece of wilderness in the temperate rainforest of Western Canada for every class trip. In this way, 64,000 m² in the land of the hummingbirds have been legally protected for the future and around 75% of the trip's CO₂ emissions have been offset by booking a HEROLÉ class trip.

Since 2021, 1 m² of old-growth forest has been protected for every person traveling with HEROLÉ - now also in the tropical rainforest in Peru. Here, the protected areas are located in the Madre de Dios region, along the Tambopata River. Playful monkeys, mysterious jaguars and liana-covered jungle giants are at home in these forests.
The Amazon rainforest of the Tambopata region is one of the most species-rich ecosystems on earth.

The Tambopata is the habitat of the spectacled caiman.
The primeval forest giants in the HEROLÉ FOREST FOR FUTURE are several hundred years old and some are over 40 meters high.

Why old-growth forest protection with WI?
What particularly impressed HEROLÉ about Wilderness International was the transparent and specific use of the donations: €1 donation protects 1 m2 of old-growth forest - forever. Donors receive a certificate with the geo-coordinates and an aerial photo of the protected forest area, as well as a tax-deductible donation receipt.
About Wilderness International
The foundation, which is based in Peru, Canada and Germany, purchases legally secure wilderness areas and protects them for the future. The purchases are refinanced through donations, which ensure the long-term protection of the areas and enable environmental education projects and research into CO₂ storage and biodiversity.
