Since 2018, Fjordkind has been working with the Wilderness International Foundation to preserve the world's last primeval forests. The specialist tour operator protects 20 m² of temperate rainforest in western Canada for every trip booked. Customers have the option of donating an additional 10 m², 20 m² or 50 m².

Impressions from the protected area in Peru
The protected areas are located in Peru, in the Madre de Dios region, not far from the city of Puerto Maldonado along the Tambopata River. This is home to the most species-rich ecosystem on earth: playful monkeys, mysterious jaguars and liana-covered jungle giants find their habitat here.
Along the Tambopata River there are still dense contiguous rainforest areas.
A spectacled caiman sunbathes on the riverbank.
A young capuchin monkey eyes the expedition team skeptically.
Magnificent macaws regularly fly over the protected areas.
The primeval forest giants in the protected areas are several hundred years old and some are over 40 meters high.

The wilderness areas that Fjordkind protects in the temperate rainforest are located on Porcher Island on the west coast of Canada. They are the most species-rich ecosystem in the northern hemisphere. Their ancient giant trees provide a safe habitat for an incredible number of animal and plant species.
Magnificent Steller jays can be heard - and even admired - in the reserve.
Rare coastal wolves roam the beaches of Porcher Island.
Thick carpets of moss cover the forest floor in the temperate rainforest.
Orcas are at home off the coasts of the sanctuary.
The giant trees in the temperate rainforest are up to 2,000 years old.

What particularly impressed Fjordkind about Wilderness International was the transparent and concrete use of the donations: 1€ donation protects 1m2 old-growth forest - forever. Donors receive a certificate with the geo-coordinates and an aerial photo of the protected forest area, as well as a tax-deductible donation receipt.

About Wilderness International
The foundation, which is based in Peru, Canada and Germany, purchases legally secure wilderness areas and protects them for the future. The purchases are refinanced through donations, which ensure the long-term protection of the areas and enable environmental education projects and research into CO₂ storage and biodiversity.
