Wilderness International has a proven track record of commitment to the protection of primary forests and the preservation of natural habitats. Its charitable work includes the legally secured acquisition of forest areas in Canada, whose protection is documented and externally verified on a long-term basis.
When it comes to climate protection, Wilderness International focuses on direct, transparent measures to preserve CO₂ reservoirs in existing ecosystems. The organization therefore does not participate in CO₂ certificate trading, but concentrates on verifiable conservation projects with measurable effects. This makes WI the right partner for Ortlieb.

In 1982, Hartmut Ortlieb founded ORTLIEB Sportartikel GmbH in Nuremberg. Since 1997, the outdoor equipment supplier has been based in Heilsbronn in the district of Ansbach in Middle Franconia and now employs over 300 people, offering a range of more than 500 individual products.
As part of its "To be free" campaign (2025), ORTLIEB has given Wilderness International a stage to emphasize the importance of wilderness and species conservation.

The wilderness areas that ORTLIEB protects in the temperate rainforest are located on Porcher Island on the west coast of Canada. They are the most species-rich ecosystem in the northern hemisphere. Their ancient giant trees provide a secure habitat for an incredible number of animal and plant species.
