Having already told you about the first positive results of the environmental education project of WI Peru and Ana-Paula, we naturally want to keep you up to date on our current goals.
We are still focusing on local communities and schools: we want to continue to motivate people to get involved and educate them about the importance of the Amazon rainforest and its inhabitants.
Madre de Dios is considered the most biodiverse place in the world. We absolutely must preserve these unique habitats!
Environmental education in schools
Collaborations:
We are aiming for long-term agreements with local educational institutions, in 2025 with the Javier Heraud and Santo Domingo de Guzmán schools from Laberinto and UGEL Tambopata, the district's education authority.School curriculum:
We want to promote dialog between the most important players in continuing education. This includes working with teachers, parents and principals to develop a curriculum that meets the needs and interests of students.Research:
We want to support teachers in teaching their students the basics of scientific research. The aim is for research reports from schools to be presented again at the national science fair.Green classroom:
We want to complete the construction of our green classroom so that we can regularly welcome school classes to our research station. At the moment, we are expecting at least three visits from different school classes.
Our green classroom is equipped with solar panels and is located right next to one of our forest guardian stations.
Projects with local communities
Laberinto:
An agreement is to be reached with the city council in Laberinto, in which future events and participation in the city festival are defined. Another bat festival is also planned.Alliances:
Many different actors and organizations are working to preserve biodiversity in the Madre de Dios region. Our aim is to create alliances, especially with local NGOs and companies operating in the "buffer zone" of the national park.Puerto Maldonado:
Ana-Paula and her team also want to remain active in Puerto Maldonado, taking part in the annual festivities and university events.
The WI Peru team is looking forward to many more projects with the local communities!
Understand. Feel. Protect.
We are very much looking forward to all the projects and updates that the WI Peru team has in store for us, and to working with the local people to revitalize nature conservation not only on a biological but also on a social level - and with all our senses.
